The Big Egg Hunt, hosted by Fabergé, Action for Children, and Elephant Family was celebrated in a launch party on Wednesday. This was the first time that some of the eggs had been seen, and brought the entire project to life.

Fabergé’s name has been synonymous with eggs since its 1842 founding in St Petersburg. The many bejewelled decorative eggs have become some of the most expensive and treasured collectors items in the world, so it is no shock that the modern company often creates egg themed jewellery.

To celebrate their first London store in over 90 years, Sarah Fabergé has worked together with Mark Shard, the founder of Elephant Family, and Dame Clare Tickell, the CEO of leading charity Action for Children, to create an event that will benefit all.

Many artists, jewellers, celebrities, and craftsmen have joined in the fray by creating eggs to be used in the hunt. Vivienne Westwood, the Chapman Brothers, Marc Quinn, Zandra Rhodes, Sir Nicholas Grimshaw, Diane von Furstenburg, Rob Ryan and William Curley are just some of the names who have contributed to designing the 200 unique eggs.

The eggs will be hidden around London, and members of the public are invited to hunt for them from February 21 for 40 days and 40 nights. After all the eggs have been found they will be displayed in an exhibition and then auctioned. The auction will also include the sale of a special Fabergé high jewellery egg pendant which features a 121carat emerald. They hope to raise over 2 million pounds for the charities worthwhile causes.

The party this week was to celebrate the completion of many of the eggs, and a chance to display them as their public launch. Celebrities such as Holly Valance, Nick Candy, James Caan, Rula Lenska and Emily Maitlis were on the guest list and they arrived to enjoy some live egg painting and a delicious selection of drinks, including Roedener champagne and fruity cocktails.

Not only will they be breaking the Guinness World Record for most participants in an egg hunt, they will also be hiding the world’s most expensive chocolate egg, created by William Curley.

It’s an fun and innovative idea, that is set to excite London’s residents to no end. We’re just not sure what is a more mouthwatering prospect, a giant chocolate egg – or all those jewels?
