For years, London Fashion Week was seen as the rebellious, youthful sibling of the four main international seasonal showcases. Like the raw finish on a Vivienne Westwood suit, or the club-centric subculture driven aesthetic of the East end – it was a little bit grimy, a tad booze-soaked and a whole lot of fun, albeit slightly unwearable. Now, however, we are presented with a style vista so varied in it’s commercial marketability that editorial big-wigs are pouring in in their droves onto the front rows of the relatively new design houses in order to take note of the homegrown trends that are becoming increasingly global in recent years.

This season, Motilo’s founder Sofia Barattieri and her partner Anna Machkevitch were blown away by the sheer gravitas of the talent displayed. From Burberry’s polished perfection to Berardi’s wholly feminine cuts, the creativity and consideration for practicality without compromising on style was simply astounding.

So whilst London still remains a bit raw, a bit club-centric and a whole lot of fun – it seems to have graduated from student status to young professional, all the while harnessing it’s eccentric energy as opposed to losing it. Here’s to a superb week, and an even better Autumn Winter wardrobe in six months.
