Bottega Veneta Initials

One of my favourite moments of Milan Fashion Week is the Bottega Veneta show. Although it’s usually held very early on the weekend, 9am on the Saturday morning, it’s a very chic affair: the brown/beige non-coloured entrance leads you to a wall that says ‘When your own initials are enough’ – their motto, and I already feel transported into the calming atmosphere of the luxury world. Then we get invited to sit down for the catwalk presentation, and it’s always a lovely experience to see some of the most beautiful clothes of the season, created by BV Creative Director Tomas Maier.

Bottega Veneta’s motto has been with them since the 1970′s
I must say I am in love with whatever he does. From the chic womenswear, very ladylike with a naughty twist, to the elegance of the menswear, that is relaxed and sporty at the same time. But it’s the Bottega Veneta accessories that give me goosebumps of excitement: the bags, belts and wallets, all in their signature handcrafted ‘intrecciato’ nappa, the amazing shoes in some unexpected tones of colours, and the fancy jewellery line.
Bottega Veneta is, for me, what modern luxury should be. And I am so pleased to see their latest project is what I actually love for accessories: personalisation.

The ‘Initials’ is, in fact, a service that allows people to customise handbags or accessories with their own initials, and ties in nicely with their aforementioned motto. There are four colours to choose from, with a further range of hues for the letters – no more than three are allowed. The accessories in this bespoke range include two shoppers, some wallets and cases for women, while for men, a tote, a messenger, a cross-body bag and a wallet are available.
I love the idea that it can all be done online (in UK, US and Japan), in a fun process: the user can select and personalise products with their initials, by typing them on the screen, and share their newly customised creations with friends on various social networks.
The film on the site, is also fun to watch, and it must be a chance they chose GL, my own initials, on some of the accessories featured…Well done, and thank you, Tomas!
